Malaysia and Indonesia Emphasize ASEAN Unity to Tackle Global Issues

Jakarta: Malaysia and Indonesia have concurred on the importance of a cohesive and stable ASEAN to effectively address contemporary global challenges, spanning economic, political, and security domains. This consensus was reached during a meeting between Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta, coinciding with Anwar's one-day official visit to Indonesia. According to BERNAMA News Agency, the leaders of both nations, as founding members of ASEAN, have reiterated their unwavering commitment to safeguarding regional unity and ensuring the stability of ASEAN. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the significance of the strong bilateral relationship between Malaysia and Indonesia, noting that it serves as a model and catalyst for enhanced ASEAN unity, ultimately benefitting the people of both countries and the region at large. In a Facebook post, Anwar also highlighted the mutual resolve of Malaysia and Indonesia to address outstanding border issu es without delay. This includes long-standing maritime matters, which are prioritized to preserve the robust ties and close cooperation between the two nations. He expressed optimism that achieving a win-win solution would further bolster confidence and trust between Malaysia and Indonesia, underscoring the close friendship and strategic relations that align the neighboring countries.
