Malaysia, Cambodia Discuss Implementation of Information and Media Development MoU

Bandar seri begawan: Malaysia and Cambodia recently convened a bilateral meeting to deliberate on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Information and Media Development Cooperation. This MoU was signed on the sidelines of the National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) 2026 celebration in Penang.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the 23rd ASEAN Senior Officials Responsible for Information (SOMRI) Meeting in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. The Ministry of Communications reported that Deputy Secretary-General (Strategic Communications and Creative Industry) Datuk Bahria Mohd Tamil led the Malaysian delegation, while the Cambodian delegation was headed by Secretary of State of the Ministry of Information Prak Thaveak Amida.

The discussions centered on various aspects of cooperation, including information exchange, media development, digital transformation, and efforts to enhance information integrity and address challenges within the evolving media landscape. The ministry emphasized Malaysia's commitment to strengthening ties with Cambodia through strategic initiatives aimed at advancing the information and media sectors while fostering the friendship between the two countries.

The MoU on Information and Media Development Cooperation was signed on June 20, setting the stage for increased collaboration across numerous media and communication-related fields. It was signed ad referendum by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and Amida on behalf of Cambodian Information Minister Neth Pheaktra.
