Malaysia Targets Accreditation of 100 Cybersecurity Experts as C-CISO by Year-End

Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Digital is targeting at least 100 cybersecurity experts to be accredited as Certified Chief Information Security Officers (C-CISO) by the end of this year, announced Minister Gobind Singh Deo. He emphasized the ministry's commitment to enhancing the public sector's preparedness against cyber threats through the C-CISO Certification Programme.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the initiative is implemented through a strategic collaboration with the EC-Council and the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp), with the first seven participants receiving their certifications today. Minister Gobind Singh Deo expressed hopes for increased participation in the programme, aiming to produce 100 C-CISOs this year.

The programme is set to expand to other sectors to continuously develop local talents in cybersecurity. Key figures present at the launch included Digital Ministry secretary-general Fabian Bigar, CyberSecurity Malaysia CEO Datuk Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab, and EC-Council president Sanjay Bavisi.

Minister Gobind Singh highlighted the certification program as a crucial element in supporting the Cyber Security Act 2024 (Act 854), especially for National Critical Infrastructure (NCII) entities. CISOs have strategic responsibilities in ensuring compliance with Act 854, formulating cybersecurity policies, and serving as key links among government, industry, and the NCII community.

CISOs also play a vital role in fostering a security-first culture within organizations by promoting ongoing training and ensuring adherence to security standards. The C-CISO programme covers governance, security audit, data protection, operations management, and strategic planning, which Gobind described as pivotal for developing the country's digital leadership.

Minister Gobind remarked on the evolving nature of national strength, stating that digital defence is now a cornerstone of a country's prosperity and stability, reflecting the importance of robust cybersecurity measures in today's digital age.
