Malaysia to Champion Regional Digital Development and AI, Says PM Anwar


Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia, as the chairman of ASEAN 2025, will continue to support the development of digitalisation and artificial intelligence in the region, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He highlighted Malaysia’s competitive reputation in the digital hub sector, citing political stability and clear policies as key factors.



According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized the focus on digital transformation as the thrust of Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship. He mentioned the success achieved in energy transition collaborations with Vietnam and Singapore and expressed plans to address digital transformation in upcoming meetings with ASEAN leaders, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and China. The Prime Minister made these remarks during the official launch of MaiStorage Technology, where key figures such as Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz and Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook were also present.



Anwar praised the roles of government agencies like MITI and TalentCorp, along with the Selangor state government, in supporting MaiStorage’s success. He recalled discussions with MaiStorage founder Datuk Pua Khein Seng and noted the rapid progress and profitability achieved since the company’s operations began. Anwar also acknowledged Pua’s global achievements with the Phison Group, reinforcing the importance of exploring challenging sectors for greater progress.



MaiStorage, part of the Phison Group, is a technology provider specializing in integrated circuit (IC) design and storage, focusing on data centres, AI applications, and the automotive industry in Malaysia. Anwar underscored the significance of effective policy implementation and good governance for sustainable outcomes. He stressed the necessity of discipline, clear policies, and transparent, corruption-free execution to position Malaysia as a leading destination for investment in AI and digital fields.
