Kuala lumpur: A man died after jumping from a flyover while attempting to evade a police check at Jalan Pantai Dalam yesterday. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus reported that the incident occurred at 7.45 pm when a Mobile Patrol Vehicle team from the Petaling Jaya Police Station, conducting a crime-prevention patrol, identified a Proton Wira with three occupants suspected of criminal involvement.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the police chased the vehicle from the New Pantai Expressway near the Taman Dato Harun toll plaza to Jalan Pantai Dalam. The pursuit ended in an accident at 9.50 pm when the Proton Wira collided with a Perodua Axia in the same lane. Subsequently, the police vehicle blocked the Proton Wira, causing a side-impact collision.
Fadil stated that the driver of the Proton Wira exited the vehicle and is believed to have jumped from the flyover, resulting in his death at the scene. The body was transported to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) Forensic Unit for a post-mortem examination, and the case has been classified as sudden death.
The other two men in the Proton Wira, aged 29 and 31, were detained for further investigation. One of them sustained a broken right leg and is currently receiving treatment at UMMC. The vehicle search uncovered a bag containing suspected syabu (methamphetamine) and yaba pills, and one suspect tested positive for methamphetamine.
Petaling Jaya deputy police chief Supt M. Hussin Sollehuddin Zolkifly revealed that the two detained individuals have five prior criminal records, including four drug-related offenses, and are wanted for a drug case. The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while the accident is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
