Melaka: Melaka Barisan Nasional (BN) has indicated it will field a balanced list of candidates comprising both experienced figures and new faces for the next Melaka state election. Its chairman, Ab Rauf Yusoh, said the approach was aimed at giving opportunities to the younger generation to learn the ropes of administration.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ab Rauf emphasized the importance of being fair to the future generation, stating that the development of the state should be a collaborative effort to create a legacy for future leadership. During his tenure as chairman of the state UMNO liaison body, he had introduced more than 86 percent new faces in the previous Melaka state election.
The fifth session of the 15th Melaka State Legislative Assembly is scheduled to end in December, paving the way for the state polls this year. Commenting on PAS's target to contest 16 out of the 28 state seats, Ab Rauf mentioned that it was the party's prerogative. He affirmed that UMNO and BN would continue to contest in the seats they previously won.
