Melaka Government Awaits Comprehensive Report on Pantai Siring Jetty Issue

Melaka: The Melaka government is currently awaiting a comprehensive report on the persistent shallow water issue at Pantai Siring Jetty in Umbai, which has reportedly been affecting local fishermen for over four years.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Rais Yasin, the state senior executive councillor for Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change, and Disaster Management, mentioned that a report would soon be requested from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) before any further steps are taken. "I have not yet received a comprehensive report on this matter, but last month I went to the site with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusof to inspect the situation at Pantai Siring," he stated. He expressed confidence that the issues impacting the fishermen would be resolved once the full report is obtained, assuring that the government has always been attentive to their concerns.

Earlier in the day, Datuk Rais Yasin officiated the Paya Rumput state constituency-level celebrations for National Day and Malaysia Day 2025 at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Krubong. Recent media reports highlighted that approximately 50 fishermen and tourist boat operators at the Pantai Siring Jetty have appealed to the authorities for immediate intervention to address their ongoing challenges. They pointed out that a malfunctioning sluice gate system is contributing to the shallow, silt-laden estuary, hindering boats from entering and exiting and disrupting their daily operations.
