Melaka Police Dispute Viral Video Allegations

Melaka: Police have denied claims that they were escorting several vehicles allegedly carrying foreign nationals in Tanjung Minyak here. Acting Melaka Tengah police chief Supt Halim Abas stated that the viral video in question was believed to have been edited by combining footage from two different locations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Supt Halim Abas explained that checks revealed the footage showing a police four-wheel-drive vehicle exiting a junction was indeed recorded near Masjid Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakub in Tanjung Minyak. He clarified that the officer involved was not escorting any vehicles and that it was merely a coincidence that several other vehicles exited the junction at the same time, appearing to follow behind.

Supt Halim further clarified that the footage depicting the foreign nationals' vehicles is believed to have been recorded elsewhere, not in Tanjung Minyak as claimed in the comments accompanying the viral video. He emphasized that a closer examination of the footage showed different locations and surroundings in the clips, suggesting they were combined through editing, which led to public confusion.

The 28-second video went viral on TikTok, carrying a caption inquiring about the necessity of the police escort for foreign nationals.
