Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Plans to Launch 17 New Models by 2027, Highlights Growing EV Demand

Kuala lumpur: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia plans to introduce 17 new models for the Malaysian market in 2027, expanding its offerings across both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) segments. Mercedes-Benz Cars Malaysia president and chief executive officer Martin Schulz said the company will offer a diverse range of vehicles spanning from top-end luxury models to compact segments.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Schulz emphasized a broad spectrum of products across the entire range and in all types of propulsion. He highlighted that whether it is a combustion engine or battery electric, new products will ensure that customers have a complete choice without compromising on safety, comfort, technology, or design.

Earlier on Monday, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia unveiled the all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 AMG Line for the Malaysian market, which will be locally assembled in Pekan, Pahang. The company also introduced the all-new electric Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC to the Malaysian market, reimagining its globally best-selling model on a purpose-developed EV architecture.

Schulz noted that the company has observed a steady demand for its EVs in the Malaysian market, with their share doubling year-on-year, although it remains lower than that of ICE vehicles. He expressed optimism about offering a full range of choices to customers, given the growth rate in EV demand.

Meanwhile, Schulz mentioned that the luxury automaker would continue to invest in the Mercedes-Benz Production Plant in Pekan, particularly as it expands the local assembly of EV models. He stated that the Pekan manufacturing facility has significant capabilities, including a full body and paint shop, and will play a key role in assembling the company's upcoming models, with most of the 17 new models planned for 2027 to be produced there.

Schulz added that the localization of EVs began in 2023, with plans to localize both the fully-electric GLC and the fully-electric CLA. The company is committed to continuous investment in new products for its operations in Malaysia.
