MOE Allocates RM100,000 For Fire-Hit Religious School In Bachok

Bachok: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has agreed to allocate RM100,000 for cleaning and basic repair works, including electrical wiring and the restoration of water supply, at Sekolah Menengah Ugama Darul Ulum Al-Muhammadiah in Bachok, Kelantan, which was hit by a fire yesterday. Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the move is to enable the school to resume operations as usual and is part of immediate measures to ensure the safety, welfare and well-being of students, teachers and the entire school community.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the school has been vacated to allow for a safety assessment to be carried out. Teachers and students will conduct teaching and learning from home throughout this week. Minister Fadhlina Sidek mentioned in a statement today that a team of counsellors from the Kelantan State Education Department has also been deployed to provide psychosocial support programmes for affected students, teachers, and school staff.

Three blocks of the school, established in 1990, comprising the academic block, supervisors' rooms, and the boys' hostel, were destroyed in the fire but no injuries were reported. The school has a total of 251 students, of whom 112 stay in the hostel.
