Mokhzani and Mirzan Mahathir Declare Over RM1 Billion in Assets to MACC

Kuala Lumpur: The two sons of former prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, have declared their assets to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in accordance to its chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki's request. Tan Sri Mokhzani declared a total of about RM1 billion, while Mirzan declared a total of RM246.2 million, which included their holdings, shares, and other assets.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azam Baki expressed satisfaction with the asset declarations made by both Mokhzani and Mirzan. He disclosed that Mokhzani's assets included a personal value of RM360 million, while Mirzan's personal value was approximately RM120 million. The declarations took into account various holdings and shareholdings, minus any liabilities held by the individuals.

Azam Baki emphasized the importance of correcting public perception regarding the accuracy of these asset declarations. He stated that the declaration of assets is part of an ongoing investigation, with data compiled by forensic officers and several assessments conducted on the total assets declared by Mokhzani and Mirzan.

The asset declaration by Mirzan and Mokhzani came following instructions from the MACC in January. They were required to declare their assets dating back to 1981, the year Dr Mahathir began his first tenure as prime minister. This directive is part of the MACC's investigation that commenced in August 2022 into entities related to and named in the Pandora Papers and Panama Papers.
