Muslim Leaders Call for Collective Action Against Israel’s Attack on Qatar

Doha: Condemnations from the Muslim world mounted on Monday as Qatar hosted an emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha, where state leaders condemned Israel's strike on Hamas negotiators in Doha. Addressing the summit, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani described the Israeli attack as "cowardly and treacherous," noting that Hamas leaders were reviewing a U.S. ceasefire proposal, presented by Qatar and Egypt, at the time of the attack.

According to TRTworld.com, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi warned that Israel's actions risk undermining current peace agreements. Sisi emphasized that the ongoing situation threatens regional security and future peace prospects, potentially reversing historic peace-building efforts.

Jordan's King Abdullah II called for a strong regional response to the aggression against Qatar, describing Israel's actions as "a blatant act of terrorism." Iran's president also highlighted the need for Islamic unity in response to the attack.

Israel has faced accusations of committing genocide in Gaza from various international entities, including a prominent group of genocide scholars. Qatar, which has been a mediator in the Gaza conflict, accused Israel of sabotaging peace efforts and practicing "state terrorism."

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned Israel's attack on Doha, urging the UN to suspend Israel and calling for an Arab-Islamic task force to combat Israel's "expansionist designs." Sharif labeled the attack on Qatar as a manifestation of Israel's "declared hegemonic ambitions."

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim called for an end to diplomatic and trade ties with Israel, seeking support for the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla. Anwar described the Israeli airstrikes on Doha as reckless and endangering regional security.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed concern over the airstrikes and urged de-escalation in accordance with international law. Bayramov reiterated Azerbaijan's support for Qatari sovereignty and emphasized the importance of resuming negotiations for a lasting ceasefire.

Bangladesh condemned the Israeli attack as an affront to the entire Muslim community, urging coordinated measures by OIC member states to deter further Israeli provocation. The statement highlighted Israel's disregard for the UN Charter and international law.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono stressed that the Palestinian issue is about the survival and dignity of all nations. Sugiono called for the UN Security Council to take firm measures to ensure accountability and emphasized Indonesia's unwavering support for a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
