Petra: The implementation of the National Energy Efficiency Policy and Action Plan 2026-2035 (NEEAP 2.0) is anticipated to generate RM85 billion in net energy savings and attract RM36 billion in private investment over the next decade.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) stated that the plan is expected to create approximately 29,000 new job opportunities, providing a boost to the country's green energy and economic ecosystem. From an environmental standpoint, NEEAP 2.0 is estimated to reduce carbon emissions by 26 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (tCO2eq) by 2035.

NEEAP 2.0 was launched during the opening ceremony of the 7th International Sustainable Energy Summit (ISES). It aims to improve electricity and thermal energy efficiency by 11.6 percent compared to the business-as-usual scenario. PETRA explained that this target equates to estimated cumulative energy savings of 815,000 terajoules (TJ), enough to meet the entire electricity supply needs of Peninsular Malaysia for nearly two years.

The plan is a continuation of the previous action plan's achievements and seeks to drive the country's energy transition towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. It aims to foster an energy efficiency culture across industrial, commercial, and domestic sectors. PETRA emphasized that priority will be given to high-impact sectors to stimulate economic growth while ensuring participation from all segments of society.

The policy's implementation aligns with Malaysia MADANI's aspiration to promote efficient and sustainable energy use, supporting the people's well-being, low-carbon development, and the sustainability of the country's energy resources.
