Negeri sembilan: Negeri Sembilan UMNO has put forward a proposal for Barisan Nasional (BN) to contest all 36 seats in the forthcoming state election. Its chairman, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, emphasized the importance of fielding 'experienced new faces' for the seats not contested by BN in the 2023 state election. This includes candidates who have been carefully selected through a rigorous evaluation process, with a focus on including women candidates.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias indicated that potential candidates could come from UMNO, as well as MCA and MIC. The candidate list is nearing completion and is expected to be submitted to UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi next week for final approval. The selection process has retained approximately 95 to 97 percent of the previous candidates, while also introducing several new faces.
Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun had earlier announced that the coalition would contest all 36 seats. The 2023 state election resulted in PH and BN forming the Negeri Sembilan government after securing a combined total of 31 seats, with PH winning 17 seats and BN securing 14. Meanwhile, Perikatan Nasional managed to win five seats.
Negeri Sembilan recently became the second state to dissolve its legislative assembly, following Johor, to facilitate the upcoming state election.
