No By-Elections for Pandan and Setiawangsa Seats Confirmed by EC

Kuala lumpur: Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun has confirmed that no by-elections will be conducted for the Pandan and Setiawangsa parliamentary seats. This decision aligns with Article 54(1) of the Federal Constitution, as Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul communicated to the EC that it was unnecessary to fill these casual vacancies.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the EC received formal notification from Johari via a letter regarding the status of the two parliamentary seats, which were declared vacant under Article 51 of the Federal Constitution. The letter, dated today, confirmed that no by-election would be necessary for the P.100 Pandan and P.118 Setiawangsa constituencies.

On Sunday, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, both of whom held prominent positions in PKR, announced their decision to vacate their parliamentary seats. This decision took effect the following Monday, with their resignation from the party effective on Tuesday, as detailed in letters submitted to the party secretary-general. The two politicians have since assumed control of Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama), a minor political entity based in Penang.
