Seremban: The Negeri Sembilan state government has decided not to increase residential assessment tax rates for the next five years, said Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim. He stated that the decision was made at the State Executive Council (Exco) meeting today as part of the state government's efforts to ease the people's burden.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the local authority (PBT) is already conducting a study on a possible increase in assessment tax, which was supposed to take effect in January or July. However, the decision was made that there will be no increase in assessment tax for the next five years. This measure is part of the Barisan Nasional manifesto for the recent 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election. Datuk Ismail Lasim shared this information during a press conference after chairing the first Exco meeting.

Additionally, he announced that the First (Special) Session of the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly is scheduled for August 18. This session will include the swearing-in of all state assemblymen, the appointment of the State Assembly speaker and deputy speaker, and the tabling of an additional budget to address some of the state's financial needs.

Ismail further explained that the Speaker will be appointed from among non-members of the State Legislative Assembly, while the Deputy Speaker must be a state assemblyman. A candidate for the Deputy Speaker has been identified, and an announcement is expected next week. The candidate for Speaker has also been identified, although no final decision has been made.

During today's meeting, Ismail emphasized the importance of all Exco members performing their duties with dedication, integrity, professionalism, and commitment. He stressed that the administration must function as a cohesive team, with each Exco member leading their respective portfolios and ensuring alignment with the state government's objectives.
