Over 3,000 Seedlings Distributed to Promote Home-Based Farming at Melaka PMR 2025

Kuala lumpur: More than 3,000 seedlings and vegetable seeds were distributed free of charge to visitors during the Melaka edition of the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025, which took place over three days at Politeknik Merlimau, Jasin.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dayang Aszuanty Yusof, an officer from the Melaka Department of Agriculture, stated that the initiative was organized by the Department of Agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. The event was held in collaboration with the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) to promote home-based farming among the public.

Visitors were required to fill out a coupon to redeem a seedling or seed pack. On Saturday, over 1,300 seedlings and vegetable seeds, including varieties like pandan coconut, guava, pomelo, and various vegetable seeds, were prepared. On the first day, 500 seedlings and 300 packs of vegetable seeds were distributed. The distribution will continue on Sunday, with an emphasis on a larger quantity of seedlings and seeds.

Additionally, the Melaka Department of Agriculture provided a technical exhibition and agricultural consultation services. Visitors had the opportunity to receive free advisory services from technical officers and register as farmers. The exhibition aimed to educate the public on starting small-scale farming at home.

Visitor Suhaili Halim expressed her excitement in receiving a free pomelo seedling. She noted that such initiatives encourage public interest in agriculture and motivate the use of home spaces for planting.

The Melaka MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025, running from October 17-19, includes various community activities, government agency exhibitions, and welfare initiatives for the benefit of the state's residents.
