Parliamentary Service Council to Begin Operations by December

Kuala Lumpur:The Parliamentary Service Council (MPP) of Malaysia is slated to become fully functional by December, aiming to enhance the administrative autonomy of the Malaysian Parliament.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul stated that the council would manage issues such as service schemes, career development, and administrative oversight of parliamentary officers. It will also ensure adherence to the Parliamentary Services Act 2025, which was officially enforced on October 1, restoring Parliament's administrative independence after 33 years under the Prime Minister's Department.

The MPP will be co-chaired by the Dewan Rakyat Speaker and the Dewan Negara President, with a membership comprising 16 individuals, including the Director-General of Public Services, the Treasury Secretary-General, four Members of Parliament, and two senators. The senator appointments will occur when the Dewan Negara convenes on November 30.

At a Dewan Rakyat session, a motion introduced by the Prime Minister to appoint four MPs to the MPP was approved without debate. The MPs appointed include Ramkarpal Singh from PH-Bukit Gelugor, Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad from BN-Simpang Renggam, Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee from PN-Beluran, and Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan from PN-Kota Bharu.

The establishment of the MPP is expected to reinforce the principle of separation of powers and strengthen democracy according to the Malaysian Federal Constitution.
