Kuala lumpur: Patriotism among Malaysians should be reflected in their actions, rather than merely expressed through symbols such as flying the Jalur Gemilang, said Community Communications Department (J-KOM) Strategic Adviser Datuk Dr Budiman Mohd Zohdi. He emphasized that true patriotism is rooted in a deep sense of love, loyalty, and pride in the country, which should be cultivated in every Malaysian and demonstrated through efforts to maintain peace, unity, and collective well-being.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Budiman highlighted that displaying a flag alone does not make patriotism meaningful if the significance behind it is not understood. "What matters more is what comes from within, and how we develop a sense of love, loyalty, and pride in our own country," he remarked during his appearance on Bernama Radio's Fokus 30 programme, titled 'Bagaimana Semangat Patriotik Kita?'.

Budiman suggested simple ways to exhibit patriotism, such as properly displaying the Jalur Gemilang, repairing damaged flags, and expressing pride in the country in daily life. He stressed the importance of adapting efforts to foster patriotism among young people to align with changing times and the evolving ways they consume information.

He also noted that Malaysia's multi-ethnic diversity should be seen as a strength that contributes to building unity and a shared national identity. Citing sports as an example, Budiman said, "When we watch sports, especially badminton and football, we support the players regardless of who they are. This is one example of how patriotism can be experienced collectively."

As National Day approaches, Budiman encouraged Malaysians to demonstrate their patriotism by flying the Jalur Gemilang at home and participating in community celebrations. Such efforts, he argued, are vital to ensuring that patriotic values are passed on to future generations, serving as a foundation for nation-building.
