Paya Terubong Landslide Prompts Evacuation of Four Houses

Paya Terubong:Four houses near a recent landslide site in Taman Seri Rambai, Paya Terubong, have been ordered to be temporarily vacated as a precautionary measure, announced state executive councillor H'ng Mooi Lye. The evacuation notices were issued to residents while discussions are ongoing with the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a meeting with DOSH is set for Monday at Komtar to gather updates on the investigation and determine subsequent actions. H'ng, who chairs the State Local Government and Town and Country Planning Committee, revealed that DOSH conducted an investigation at the site a day after the landslide to identify the cause.

The landslide incident, which occurred at 836 am last Sunday, resulted in the death of 73-year-old Dr. Wong Kar Lin. DOSH is expected to involve all relevant parties to gain a comprehensive understanding before deciding on any necessary action, especially if negligence or regulatory non-compliance is found.

H'ng further stated that the developer of a nearby project has been instructed to implement immediate mitigation measures to prevent future landslides, particularly during heavy rain. This includes covering exposed slope sections with geotextiles to reduce rainwater infiltration.

Additionally, a pump and piping system has been installed to redirect water from the upper hillside to an open drain, preventing water accumulation on the slope. H'ng also addressed claims that slope stabilization works were conducted twice between 2018 and 2026, explaining that these were safety measures implemented before road construction commenced.
