Perak MMEA Makes RM3 Mln Seizures In Illegal Fishing Op

Perak: The Perak Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) seized a Class C local fishing vessel along with fishing equipment and marine produce valued at over RM3 million during a patrol approximately 5.0 nautical miles southwest of the Muara Sungai Tiang, Manjung, yesterday. Its director, Maritime Captain Mohamad Shukri Khotob, reported that four crew members, including an Indonesian skipper aged between 20 and 47, were detained to assist in investigations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the vessel was suspected of violating the Fisheries Act 1985, and the case is also under investigation for potential breaches of the Immigration Act 1959/63. The arrest was executed by Malaysian Maritime assets through patrols under operations such as Op Sayong 1/2018, Op Pintas 1/2021, and Op Tiris 4.0.

All seized items, including an estimated 2,000 kilogrammes of mixed fish, were transported to the Marine Police Force (PPM) jetty in Kampung Acheh for handover to Perak Maritime investigating officers for further action. Maritime Captain Mohamad Shukri Khotob emphasized that the MMEA is committed to taking action against any parties violating maritime laws and urged the public to report any sea-related offences to the Perak State Maritime Operations Centre at 05-683 8737 or via the emergency line 999.
