Perak: The Perak Road Transport Department (RTD) issued 353 notices and seized 21 motorcycles on the first day of its special operation in conjunction with Chinese New Year at Jalan Tambun here today. State RTD director Mohammad Yusoff Abustan announced that 1,025 inspections were carried out, including 927 motorcycles and 98 cars, with seized motorcycles found to be in violation of Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohammad Yusoff highlighted that the majority of offences involved motorcyclists not possessing a valid license or road tax, and having heavily modified vehicles. He emphasized that the operation aims to address the issue of road safety, noting that 60 to 75 percent of road accidents involve motorcyclists and pillion riders. The initiative is intended to prioritize their safety.
Furthermore, Mohammad Yusoff mentioned that the RTD will continue its practice of deploying undercover officers as express bus passengers during the upcoming festive season. This measure is part of a broader effort to ensure compliance with regulations by express bus drivers, alongside routine inspections at four bus terminals within the state.
The operation is scheduled to run from January 20 to 28 before the Chinese New Year and will resume from January 31 to February 9. The focus will be on monitoring, detecting, and taking action against road users who violate regulations, with particular attention on offences such as lacking a competent driving license, public service vehicle license, and using mobile phones while driving.
