Perlis MB Confirms State Assembly Postponement for Administrative Refinement

Perlis: Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah has assured that the state legislative assembly will sit before June 8, with the new date to be announced next week. He clarified that the postponement of the sitting was not due to any vote of no confidence or uncertainty regarding support for the state government under his leadership.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Perlis state assembly was initially set to convene from April 21 to 23. However, a notification letter issued last Friday sparked speculation about the delay. Abu Bakar explained that the postponement aims to allow the state government to further refine its administrative preparations, ensuring a more orderly sitting. He noted that he had only assumed office as Menteri Besar after taking his oath on December 28 of the previous year.

Abu Bakar emphasized that the decision to postpone was not indicative of any weakness in his leadership or an attempt to avoid political pressure. Instead, he described it as part of his administrative approach to streamline the state government’s affairs. He stated that his leadership style differs from previous leadership, asserting that “in politics, we do not know the meaning of fear” and there is no issue of fear affecting his decisions.
