Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to continue enhancing its professionalism and firmness in carrying out its duties, particularly in enforcing traffic laws. He emphasized that as an agency dealing directly with the public, JPJ's actions are constantly under public scrutiny, necessitating a high level of integrity and efficiency.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar noted the challenges faced by JPJ officers, who often find themselves in a delicate balance between being firm and being lenient, which can lead to criticism from the public or pressure from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). He highlighted the impact of social media on JPJ's operations, where criticisms can stem from values and morals or be driven by malice and hatred, thus intensifying the challenges.
The Prime Minister's remarks were made during the JPJ Day 80th anniversary celebration and JPJ MADANI Mega Carnival held at the State Stadium grounds. The event was also attended by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abdul Bakar, and JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli.
Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, encouraged JPJ personnel to view public criticism as a catalyst for continuous improvement in service delivery and underscored the necessity of digitalization to enhance transparency and efficiency. He asserted that digital transformation is vital for national progress and to strengthen public trust in government agencies.
The Prime Minister commended JPJ's performance, acknowledging improvements while urging continued reform efforts to align with rising public expectations. During the event, JPJ launched the new version of its JPJ Smart Application (MyJPJ), aiming to integrate various departmental services into a single platform. Additionally, JPJ introduced the JPJ Road Safety Icon initiative, appointing national songstress Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin as the official icon to promote road safety awareness.
