RM500 Million Allocated for Machang Water Treatment Plant Construction

Machang: Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) has announced the allocation of RM500 million for the development of the Machang Water Treatment Plant, which is set to begin construction by the end of the current year. The plant is projected to be fully operational by 2030, aiming to deliver up to 120 million litres of treated water daily, enhancing the long-term water supply stability in Kelantan.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, PAAB chairman, Datuk Seri Jaseni Maidinsa, emphasized the importance of this project in ensuring water security for the region. He also disclosed an additional investment of RM145.8 million dedicated to the replacement of 162 kilometres of old and deteriorated pipes across Kelantan over the next five years. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to minimize treated water losses in the area.

During the PAAB Santuni MADANI Programme at the Kuala Krai MARA Junior Science College, Jaseni highlighted that the successful completion of these projects is critical to addressing the persistent clean water supply shortages affecting residents in the state. The event witnessed the presence of PAAB chief executive officer Zulkiflee Omar, who also underscored the significance of these infrastructural improvements for the community.
