Labuan: Agriculture and agrotourism show Road to MAHA Labuan 2026 generated RM1.93 million in sales and attracted 72,477 visitors over a four-day run, exceeding its initial targets, the event's secretariat said today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the secretariat under the Federal Territories Department (JWP) stated that the July 23-26 event had initial targets of RM1.6 million in sales and 30,000 visitors. "The overwhelming response reflects strong public support for the agriculture and food industry and demonstrates the effectiveness of the Road to MAHA initiative in promoting local entrepreneurs, agro-based products and food security," the secretariat highlighted.
Organised by the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry, the JWP, and Labuan Corporation, the event featured six themed exhibition zones showcasing key segments of the agri-food industry. These segments included Food Security and Innovation, Modern Livestock Farming, Aquaculture and the Tuna Industry, Agrotourism and Culture, SME and Youth Entrepreneurs, and the Labuan Food Empire, complemented by an Agro MADANI sales area.
A total of 184 entrepreneurs participated in the programme, comprising 117 from Labuan and the remainder from Sabah, Sarawak, Johor, and Perak. The event offered a range of agricultural and fisheries products, livestock, processed food, and agro-based innovations.
One of the highlights of the programme was the signing of a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Labuan Corporation and Labuan Food Industries Sdn Bhd to develop the tuna industry and seafood processing ecosystem in the federal territory. Labuan Corporation chief executive officer Rithuan Ismail and Labuan Food Industries representative Diana Koh signed the MoU.
The secretariat noted that the collaboration will strengthen the tuna industry's value chain through processing, technology, logistics, research, investment promotion, and the development of high-value downstream industries. The strategic partnership is expected to attract investments of between RM2 billion and RM5 billion, create more than 20,000 job opportunities, and reinforce Labuan's position as a strategic seafood processing hub and regional trade gateway.
Road to MAHA Labuan 2026 was organised as a precursor to the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Expo (MAHA) 2026, aiming to promote innovation, enhance food security, and expand market opportunities for entrepreneurs from Labuan and across Malaysia.
