Kuala Lumpur: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has urged organisers of an upcoming assembly in the capital this Saturday to adhere strictly to the provisions of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012. He stressed that responsibility for compliance lies with participants, organisers, and the police alike.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Home Minister encouraged organisers to revisit the Peaceful Assembly Act and review the responsibilities of all parties involved. Speaking at the International Asia Security Summit and Expo 2025, he highlighted the importance of the police's role in facilitating assemblies, provided they adhere to established regulations.
Reports have indicated that the assembly, themed "Rakyat Benci Rasuah" (The People Reject Corruption), is set to take place on January 25. This gathering is believed to be a continuation of a recent New Year's Eve student-organised assembly in Sabah, which protested against state politicians allegedly involved in corruption scandals.
The Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 was introduced to ensure that the public can exercise their right to assemble peacefully and in an orderly fashion without disrupting public order.
