Kuching: The emphasis by Sarawak's leadership on renewable energy-based economic development, the digital economy, and education shows that the state is on the right track to becoming a leader in the future economy, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah highlighted Sarawak's progressive approach towards economic development, focusing on gas, renewable energy, and downstream industries. This strategic direction is expected to create job opportunities and improve the well-being of the people. He noted that Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg's speech at the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Convention 2026 underscored a visionary leadership committed to the people's interests.
Fadillah praised the Premier's dedication to safeguarding Sarawak's rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), particularly in managing strategic resources such as oil and gas. He emphasized that the approach involves fairness and close cooperation between federal and state governments, reflecting a mature and constructive stance.
The Deputy Prime Minister also remarked that the GPS Convention serves as a crucial platform to align Sarawak's development with national goals. He acknowledged GPS's commitment to political stability, unity, and leadership continuity by combining experienced leaders with the younger generation, forming a solid foundation for long-term prosperity.
Fadillah called upon all segments of society to unite with the Sarawak State Government to ensure effective implementation of development initiatives. This unity is seen as essential for the well-being of the people and the realization of Sarawak's vision of becoming a prosperous state.
