Six Arrested for Impersonating Police in Kepong Robberies

Kuala lumpur: Police have arrested six local men believed to be involved in armed robbery cases by impersonating police officers, resulting in estimated losses of RM4.4 million in three separate incidents around Kepong last Sunday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kuala Lumpur Police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus stated that the incidents occurred between 5.30 am and 7.30 am, targeting the homes of two Chinese nationals and an Indonesian woman, aged between 29 and 52. The suspects reportedly posed as police officers to execute the robberies, focusing on residences belonging to foreign nationals.

During the robberies, one suspect allegedly threatened the victims with an object resembling a pistol before escaping with numerous valuables. Items stolen included three luxury vehicles-a Rolls-Royce, a Bentley, and a Toyota Alphard-as well as a safe, RM24,200 in cash, foreign currency amounting to USD1,200, various pieces of jewelry, and two gold bars.

Fadil explained that the arrests came after intelligence efforts by police teams from the Sentul District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and the Kuala Lumpur Contingent CID. The first three suspects were detained at 8.45 pm on Sunday, with three more arrested subsequently. The arrested individuals, aged between 31 and 51, were found in the Kuala Lumpur area. The operation also led to the confiscation of two pistols, eight mobile phones, two security passes, RM13,056 in cash, various foreign currencies, and the recovery of all the robbed vehicles and some stolen items.

Investigations revealed that the group had a sophisticated approach, impersonating police officers to target affluent victims. They operated with specific roles, including a coordinator to manage the crimes. Notably, two of the suspects were bodyguards who had misused their licenses, while another suspect is a suspended police officer with a past drug-related record.

The suspects are currently remanded for seven days, with one testing positive for amphetamine. The case is being investigated under sections 395, 397, and 170 of the Penal Code, and further investigations are being conducted to explore possible connections to other cases. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Kuala Lumpur Police Hotline at 03-2115 9999 or any nearby police station.
