No Immediate Plans for State Election in Perak: Saarani

Perak: The Perak government has firmly stated that there are no intentions to conduct a state election soon, countering a claim made in a local newspaper article. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad clarified that such claims are unfounded as the topic has not been discussed on any official state government platform.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saarani addressed the issue while responding to a report by an English-language daily that suggested Perak might conduct a state election as a 'test case' before the 16th General Election (GE16). Saarani expressed his surprise upon reading the article, emphasizing that the process of initiating a state election involves seeking an audience with the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, to propose the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly. He noted that without the Sultan's consent, such a proposal could be interpreted as a resignation by the Menteri Besar, a scenario he considers improbable.

Saarani's remarks were made during a press conference at the handover ceremony of the Dana Kreatif Perak@PORT (DKP) for the 2025/2026 edition. The event took place at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building and was attended by PORT board chairman Datuk Khairudin Abu Hanipah and general manager Nur Hanim Mohamed Khairuddin. Saarani reiterated that the state government still has over a year left in its current administrative term and sees no likelihood of a state election occurring in the near future.
