Kuala lumpur: Professional mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai are determined to regain their place in the Road To Gold (RTG) programme. Shevon Lai expressed their commitment to compete in a calmer manner, focusing on their performance without succumbing to excessive pressure.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Shevon emphasized the importance of maintaining composure, as previous attempts to re-enter the RTG programme were hampered by psychological and emotional factors. "Definitely we will fight, but I think we leave it back on the court because previously we had experienced many times when we wanted it so badly (to enter RTG) that our game was disrupted," she said after their match in the Malaysian Masters badminton championship.

The RTG committee recently announced that Soon Huat and Shevon were excluded from the programme after failing to meet the criteria of being ranked among the world's top eight. Despite this setback, the pair showed determination in the Malaysia Masters today by advancing to the second round with a victory over United States pair Francesca Corbett and Chen Zhi Yi, winning 21-8, 21-16.

Shevon also commented on the upcoming match against Taiwan's Wu Guan Xun and Lee Chia Hsin, expressing confidence while cautioning against underestimating their opponents. The match is set for tomorrow, and Shevon is optimistic about their chances.

Meanwhile, the tournament saw disappointments for other national pairs. Hoo Pang Ron and Lai Pei Jing, as well as Cheng Su Yin and Jimmy Wong, were eliminated in the opening round. Pang Ron and Pei Jing lost to China's Chen Xing and Zhang Chi, while Su Yin and Jimmy were defeated by Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje.
