Sukma: The level of venue readiness for the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor has reached approximately 80 percent, focusing on infrastructure and sports facility upgrades across the state. Selangor Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Exco Mohd Najwan Halimi stated that the ongoing preparations include enhancements to sports facilities at both local authority and district levels.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, two main venues undergoing comprehensive upgrades are the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre (PADE) in Section 13, Shah Alam, and the Subang Shooting Range. Mohd Najwan highlighted that the aquatic centre, last used for SUKMA 1998, is receiving significant improvements in facilities and technology after nearly 30 years. He expressed confidence that by April, all sports facilities will be ready for SUKMA 2026, as mentioned at a press conference for the Symbolic Arrival Ceremony of the SUKMA 2026 Torch at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1.
The SUKMA 2026 torch was brought by SUKMA Secretariat CEO Datuk Mohd Yazid Saari to symbolize the campaign's commencement, aiming to heighten excitement for the games scheduled from August 15-24. The torch tour will cover nine districts in Selangor to promote the state's second hosting of the biennial sports event.
A ceremony in Kuching, Sarawak, marked the handover of the SUKMA 2026 torch to Selangor, following Sarawak's hosting of the last edition in 2024. This edition will feature 474 events across 37 sports, while the SUKMA 2026 Paralympics, set for September 5-14, will include 10 sports.
