Kuala lumpur: TikTok has announced a new initiative aimed at helping parents navigate the rapidly evolving digital landscape. The company has partnered with the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (Content Forum) and the Parent Action Group for Education Malaysia (PAGE) to launch the #ThinkTwice training program. "It is part of TikTok's continuous efforts to cultivate a more informed online community," the company stated, emphasizing its commitment to empowering parents with digital knowledge.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysia Head of Public Policy at TikTok, Firdaus Fadzil, acknowledged the challenges parents face in keeping up with technological advancements. He noted that TikTok aims to alleviate these challenges through its Safety by Design approach. Mediha Mahmood, CEO of Content Forum, highlighted the importance of equipping parents with digital skills, noting that these are essential life skills that can help raise responsible and resilient teenagers.
Mediha Mahmood further emphasized the necessity of guiding teenagers rather than isolating them, advocating for digital platforms to offer default protections and tools that assist parents. Echoing this sentiment, Tunku Munawirah Putra, Honorary Secretary of PAGE, stressed the role of creative expression in fostering self-discovery and problem-solving skills. She also highlighted the economic value of digital participation and praised TikTok's initiative to provide parents with practical skills for safeguarding their children's digital experiences.
Audrey, a mother and content creator known as @4feet9, shared her personal experience, noting that the training provided insights into the detailed safety tools available on TikTok. She underscored the importance of open conversations and collaborative parenting in managing digital risks. Similarly, Sufina, a mother and digital coach known as @wfsufina, advocated for guidance and education over banning access, emphasizing the role of parents in helping children build safer digital habits.
