Putrajaya: Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) has appointed Kelantan pondok scholar Sheikh Wazir Che Awang Al-Makki as an adjunct professor (Industry) at its Faculty of Quranic and Sunnah Studies (FPQS) for a two-year term.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, USIM FPQS Assistant Registrar (Academic) Mohd Zaini Othman highlighted that Sheikh Wazir's appointment is anticipated to fortify Islamic studies rooted in the turath (heritage) tradition. The university aims to leverage the scholar's vast knowledge, expertise, and experience to enrich its academic offerings and promote a deeper understanding of Islamic heritage.

Mohd Zaini emphasized that Sheikh Wazir will actively contribute to the academic environment at USIM. His involvement will include faculty visits, lectures, public talks, and religious discussions, benefiting both students and university staff. These activities are designed to enhance learning and promote academic discourse within the university community.

The official ceremony for the appointment took place at Kompleks Islam Putrajaya, where USIM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student and Alumni Affairs), Prof Dr Mushaddad Hasbullah, presented Sheikh Wazir with his letter of appointment. The event was witnessed by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Dr Zulkifli Hassan.

Dr Zulkifli remarked that the appointment aligns with broader efforts to empower turath institutions and pondok schools across Malaysia, reinforcing their role in the country's educational landscape.

Furthermore, Mohd Zaini noted that this strategic appointment could pave the way for new collaborations between USIM and pondok institutions. It is envisioned to strengthen the Islamic education ecosystem by bridging traditional Islamic scholarship with the academic prowess of higher education institutions.
