Sarawak: The involvement of women in Sarawak is crucial to ensuring the success of the new economy, which encompasses the green energy, hydrogen, digital economy, aerospace, and high technology sectors, said Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. He emphasized that Sarawak is stepping into an economic future that requires the comprehensive participation of everyone, including women appointed as skilled workers, drivers of innovation, and decision-makers.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abang Johari highlighted that Sarawak's new economic direction includes the green energy, hydrogen, digital economy, aerospace, creative industry, and high technology sectors. He mentioned that more women are holding senior positions in the Sarawak state government, civil service, and various state agencies and departments. He assured that opportunities for women would continue to expand.
Abang Johari stated that future economic success could not be attained without the active participation of women in various strategic fields. He also noted that women's involvement in leadership and policy-making needs to be empowered to ensure balanced and inclusive development in the state.
He further expressed the need for systematic development of women's leadership capacity, allowing more women to contribute at the strategic level, including in public, corporate, and digital economic sectors. Abang Johari reaffirmed Sarawak government's commitment to collaborating with the Federal Government to ensure holistic and effective implementation of the women's empowerment agenda.
In his speech, he appreciated the cooperation between the Federal and state governments in providing opportunities for Sarawak women, ensuring no one is left behind. The celebration, themed 'Memartabat Wanita, Memperkukuh Negara' (Upholding Women, Strengthening the Nation), was also attended by Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, along with state Cabinet members and Sarawak leaders.
