Works Ministry To Consider Special Accreditation For Road Pavement Contractors

Kuala lumpur: The Works Ministry will consider a proposal to introduce special accreditation for contractors as a measure to monitor and enhance the quality of road pavement works, ensuring that construction is of higher quality, more durable, and meets its intended service life. Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in road construction and maintenance projects managed by the Public Works Department (JKR).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Ahmad Maslan noted that these projects are currently closely supervised by competent project teams in accordance with established specifications and standards. He highlighted that contractors are responsible for ensuring compliance with these quality standards. Furthermore, measures such as bond forfeiture, payment deductions, refund adjustments, and blacklisting from government tenders have been imposed on contractors who fail to meet the required standards.

The Deputy Minister expressed openness to the idea of special accreditation, stating, "However, the ministry has no objections and is ready to consider a proposal for special accreditation to ensure that pavement works are of better quality and more durable." This statement was made during a question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat, in response to a query from Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (PN-Langkawi) regarding the government's willingness to adopt advanced technology and special accreditation to improve the quality and lifespan of road pavements and accommodate heavy traffic loads.
