Port dickson: An Army personnel was wounded by gunfire during shooting practice for the upcoming Army Shooting Skills Test competition at a firing range in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, yesterday. The Army reported that the incident involving Trooper Muhammad Akhmal Shahrudin occurred at around 2.15 pm.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the incident took place when another soldier was conducting a dry-fire drill before firing at a target 25 metres away, unaware that Muhammad Akhmal was still behind the target. The shot struck Muhammad Akhmal's right cheek and exited through his lower left jaw.

Muhammad Akhmal was immediately rushed to Port Dickson Hospital for initial treatment to stop the bleeding. Medical examinations revealed no internal injuries. He is now in stable condition and has been sedated for further treatment, as stated by the Army.

The Army has emphasized its seriousness regarding the incident and has announced plans to conduct an internal investigation. Concurrently, the Royal Malaysia Police will undertake a detailed investigation to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the incident.

Army Chief General Tan Sri Azhan Md Othman expressed sadness over the incident and extended his wishes for Muhammad Akhmal's smooth treatment and recovery. The Army has also urged the public to refrain from speculating and to allow the investigations to be conducted transparently and fairly.
