Bursa Malaysia Bounces Back with Positive Opening on Bargain Hunting

Kuala lumpur: Bursa Malaysia opened on a positive note due to bargain hunting after a recent decline, despite the negative signals from Wall Street. At 9.12 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) increased by 2.04 points to 1,737.41 from the previous close of 1,735.37.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the benchmark index began the day slightly higher, opening at 1,735.41. In the broader market, gainers surpassed losers with 217 counters rising against 200 that fell, while 335 counters remained unchanged, 2,023 were not traded, and 13 were suspended. The turnover was recorded at 227.28 million shares valued at RM138.70 million.

A note from Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd highlighted that Wall Street saw a decline overnight due to the fading expectations for a US-Iran deal, which heightened concerns over possible disruptions in global oil supplies. This situation led to a surge in energy prices, with Brent crude approaching US$88.00 per barrel.

The overnight performance of Wall Street was marked by a drop, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) falling by 0.11 percent to 53,975.98. The S and P 500 decreased by 0.06 percent to 7,753.11, while the Nasdaq Composite fell by 0.32 percent to 26,605.36.

Rakuten Trade anticipates that the FBM KLCI will trade within the range of 1,730-1,740 today, maintaining a cautiously positive outlook. Among the significant players, IHH Healthcare saw an increase of 11 sen to RM8.46. However, Public Bank and CIMB Group each decreased by one sen to RM5.17 and RM7.91, respectively. Tenaga Nasional also saw a decrease of four sen to RM14.36, while Maybank remained unchanged at RM10.66.

On the active list, Dagang NeXchange fell by half a sen to 49.5 sen, TWL Holdings rose by half a sen to 2.5 sen, Zetrix AI remained steady at 70.5 sen, AMS Advanced Material gained three sen to 49 sen, and NationGate Holdings was unchanged at RM1.54.

In terms of top gainers, Allianz Malaysia rose by 20 sen to RM22.40, with Sunway Construction and IHH Healthcare both increasing by 11 sen to RM8.31 and RM8.46, respectively. YTL Power International advanced by nine sen to RM4.77, and Gamuda increased by eight sen to RM4.52.

Conversely, Petronas Gas and Hong Leong Industries both declined by 10 sen to RM17.26 and RM17.78, respectively. SD Guthrie decreased by eight sen to RM6.75, Ajinomoto Malaysia fell by six sen to RM18.94, and Pjbumi lost five sen to RM3.80.

Among the broader indices, the FBM Emas Index rose by 15.94 points to 12,884.41, the FBM Top 100 Index increased by 16.30 points to 12,700.16, the FBM Mid 70 Index grew by 29.57 points to 18,402.95, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index climbed by 23.49 points to 12,739.00, while the FBM ACE Index fell by 12.18 points to 5,144.14.

In the sectoral performance, the Energy Index rose by 4.40 points to 770.04, and the Industrial Products and Services Index gained 0.46 of a point to 188.62. However, the Financial Services Index decreased by 12.68 points to 20,406.78, and the Plantation Index dropped by 21.96 points to 9,498.53.
