Further Investigation On Explosion In Ipoh Handed Over To Police- Saarani

Ipoh: The state government has handed over investigation into the explosion and tremor incident that occurred on June 18 to the police, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad. He stated that initial investigations have yet to reveal any specific cause or evidence related to the incident.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the investigation is now under the purview of the police due to its implications on state security. Saarani mentioned that only the police are conducting the investigation and any findings will be reported to the state. This marks the second such incident in Perak, with similar occurrences reported in Selangor.

Meanwhile, Perak Minerals and Geosciences Department (JMG) director, Nizarulikram Abdul Rahim, highlighted that mysterious explosions have been documented globally without clear explanations. He noted that these explosions in Ipoh have happened in 2012, 2018, 2024, and most recently on June 18, 2025. The blasts have been ruled out as results of quarrying activities, bomb tests, or sonic booms from jet aircraft.

The Perak JMG's preliminary studies indicate the explosions were heard within a consistent range, from Chemor, Klebang, Meru in the north to Tambun and Gunung Rapat in the south. Despite ongoing research into the geological sources in the area, the cause remains undetected.

Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin announced plans for discussions with various departments and agencies to determine the cause of the explosions and tremors. Earlier media reports noted that explosions and tremors were previously reported in Perak on October 21, 2024, and June 18 this year, affecting areas such as Chemor, Chepor, Tasek, Stadium Perak, Meru, Falim, Manjoi, and Sungai Siput between 10 to 11 am.
