Serdang: The Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-Tourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026, scheduled from August 28 to September 6, will act as a conduit for innovative farmers and agrifood sector players to connect with aid agencies and potential buyers from both local and international markets.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) secretary-general Datuk Seri Isham Ishak stated that the event could add new value to innovations while accelerating the commercialisation process of these products. MAHA 2026 will provide platforms for those with new innovations to find opportunities for commercialisation, either independently or in collaboration with government and private agencies.
Datuk Seri Isham Ishak emphasized that the event aligns with the theme of MAHA 2026, 'Value Creation for Food Security,' focusing on advancing the agricultural sector beyond MAHA's 100th anniversary in 2024. He highlighted the importance of innovation and modern technology in creating new value and increasing income for farmers, breeders, planters, and fishermen.
The exhibition will be held at the Malaysian Agricultural Expo Park (MAEPS) in Serdang, Selangor. Head of the MAHA 2026 Secretariat, Datuk Dr Mohd Haniff Hassan, noted the significance of modern technology in drawing more young people to the agriculture and food industry sectors, ensuring their sustainability in the future. MAHA 2026 will feature technology such as smart farming, vertical farming, the Internet of Things (IoT), drones, and smart irrigation management systems.
Mohd Haniff mentioned that the event aims to finalise between 30 and 40 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) valued at approximately RM8 billion, with targeted sales of around RM58 million. The MoUs are expected to be signed during the Trade Days event from September 1 to 3, involving collaborations between local producers and foreign importers.
Agrobank Group chief executive officer Datuk Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin stated that Agrobank's participation as the main sponsor of MAHA 2026 demonstrates its commitment to strengthening the resilience of the national agri-food sector through financial solutions. The bank aims to strengthen relationships with the agro community, expand financial solution access, and raise awareness about development financial institutions' role in transforming the national agri-food sector.
