Kuala lumpur: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor's recent comments on racial issues have ignited a debate over the true stance of the PAS leadership, which Pakatan Harapan (PH) communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil claims often plays on racial sentiments, thereby dividing society.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi Fadzil criticized such divisive politics, emphasizing that politicians should instead promote unity and appreciate the diversity within Malaysia. He remarked, "His statement reflects a fairly widespread attitude within PAS. Previously, we have seen statements on the immigrant issue from the PAS president himself."

Fahmi, who also serves as the Minister of Communications, highlighted the importance of unity, especially as the nation celebrates its independence and National Month. He urged leaders to focus on unifying the people rather than issuing statements that could cause division. "So I hope Datuk Seri Sanusi takes a lesson and changes his attitude," he expressed, although he admitted skepticism about any change.

Previously, Sanusi had reportedly remarked that Malaysia is the sole Tanah Melayu for Malays, while suggesting that other races have their countries of origin, such as India and China. This statement was made at a political event in Jempol on July 24.

Fahmi also addressed a statement by MARA chairman, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who linked DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke to the position of Menteri Besar if the current Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun lost the state elections. Fahmi urged Asyraf Wajdi to apologize, noting that the Negeri Sembilan Constitution reserves the Menteri Besar position for Malays.

Moreover, Fahmi dismissed former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin's prediction that PH would secure only 10 percent of Malay voter support in Johor, asserting that the political dynamics in Negeri Sembilan differ significantly and expressing confidence in Aminuddin's administration.

Regarding UMNO deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan's suggestion of a possible general election by the year's end, Fahmi clarified that this was not discussed in the Cabinet, describing it as a personal opinion. He emphasized that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the current cabinet are focused on stabilizing the economy and recovering from geopolitical conflicts, rather than engaging in early elections.
