Kuching: The 310-bed Sarawak Cancer Centre is currently progressing through the tender procurement stage with the Public Works Department (JKR), as revealed by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Sim, who also serves as Sarawak's Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister, announced that the contract is anticipated to be awarded with the issuance of the Letter of Acceptance in the first quarter of 2027. He stated that the construction duration for the project is projected to be five years, with a completion target set for 2032. However, Dr Sim urged the Federal JKR to expedite the project to aim for a completion date by 2030. Dr Sim expressed gratitude to the Sarawak State Government for approving an advance of RM1 billion for the project's development, which will be reimbursed by the Federal Government at a later stage. Additionally, the State Government has sanctioned an extra RM500 million plus for the procurement of medical equipment essenti al for the centre.
