Kuala lumpur: The national boxing squad will hold a two-week training camp in Kazakhstan starting this Nov 15 as their final preparation for the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, scheduled to take place from Dec 9-20.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, President of the Malaysian Boxing Association (PTM), Datuk Mohamad Iruan Zulkefli, stated that the national boxers will have the opportunity to train with Kazakh boxers and alongside representatives from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Mohamad Iruan emphasized the experience of Kazakh boxers in Olympic competitions and expressed confidence in the progress of the national team, noting they have reached the 80 percent mark in their preparations.

He expressed his hopes that the training camp in Kazakhstan would enable the boxers to deliver optimal performances at the SEA Games. This message was conveyed during a meeting with the 2025 SEA Games Chef-de-Mission (CDM), Nurul Huda Abdullah.

Mohamad Iruan also revealed incentives for the national boxers, promising rewards if they can break the eight-year gold medal drought at the upcoming event. In the 2023 SEA Games held in Cambodia, Malaysia's boxing team secured three bronze medals through the efforts of Muhd Abdul Qaiyum Ariffin in the flyweight 51-kilogram category, Mohd Ridzuan Johari in the lightweight 60kg category, and Indran Rama Khrisnan in the cruiserweight 86kg category.

Malaysia last won a gold medal in boxing at the SEA Games in 2017, when Muhammad Fuad Redzuan triumphed in the light flyweight (49kg) category during the Kuala Lumpur edition.
