Kota kinabalu: The Sabah government plans to introduce a subsidy policy to help students repay their National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) and Yayasan Sabah loans, easing their financial burden.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor stated that the policy, which is expected to benefit over 100,000 students, will soon be presented to the Sabah State Cabinet for review, particularly regarding the required financial allocation. Hajiji expressed confidence in the feasibility of implementing this policy, considering the state's future financial outlook. He emphasized that this move reflects the government's commitment to supporting Sabah's children and ensuring their access to education.

The announcement was made during the Sabah Student Convention, where Hajiji was joined by Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali and over 100 students from across Sabah. Hajiji noted that since 2021, the state government has allocated over RM1.3 billion for education, marking the largest investment in Sabah's history and underscoring the government's strong commitment to the younger generation.

Hajiji further reiterated the state's focus on education and human capital development, highlighting the belief that youth represent Sabah's future. This year, the government allocated RM136 million in scholarships, benefiting thousands of students across various educational levels. Additionally, over 14 initiatives have been introduced, including flight subsidies and SENTOSA assistance, to support students pursuing further education.
