Mother Confirms Daughter’s Bruising Due to Blood Clotting, Not Blunt Force

Hanoi:The mother of Zara Qairina Mahathir agreed with a medical expert at the Coroner's Court today that the bruising found on her daughter's back was caused by blood clotting rather than a blow.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Noraidah Lamat, who was testifying as the 82nd witness in the inquest, stated that she was informed by a doctor on August 10 of the previous year that the bruising was not the result of a blunt object. This confirmation came after she expressed concerns about the cause of the bruising.

Noraidah clarified that none of the doctors who treated her daughter had confirmed any injuries from a blunt object, contradicting claims made in a media statement by the family's lawyer on August 3 last year. The statement was issued after she filed a police report at the Sipitang district police headquarters, seeking further investigation into the bruising observed while preparing her daughter's body on July 17, 2025.

She emphasized that the media statement was prompted by the lack of a clear explanation from investigators about the circumstances surrounding Zara Qairina's condition, which had led to various questions about her death. Noraidah also mentioned that she had not personally concluded that her daughter had been struck with a blunt object, leaving the investigation to the authorities.

Zara Qairina passed away at Queen Elizabeth Hospital on July 17, 2025, a day after being found unconscious near a drain at her school dormitory. The inquest proceedings are set to continue this afternoon.
